St. Anthony Church

4 Union City Road, Prospect, CT

Leanna Pizzo

Leanna Pizzo is the Cantor for St. Anthony’s Church where she is responsible for leading the congregation in song during weekly liturgies and special feast days.

Leanna first found her love for music and singing through the Catholic Church by joining her parish’s children choir at a young age. Since then she has held a number of different positions at local churches including soloist, cantor and choir director. She is thrilled to be part of such a friendly and welcoming community of people that all have the same love for Jesus Christ.

Leanna’s favorite Holiday is Easter; she loves Holy Week and the three day journey of our Lord’s walk through Calvary.  She enjoys the reflective music of the first few days which then leads into the joyous hymns of celebration of Jesus’s Resurrection.  Leanna’s favorite hymn is “What Wondrous Love is This” and her favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7, “for we walk by faith, not by sight.”

One of Leanna’s most memorable moments in her faith Journey was singing in the Papal choir for the Canonization Mass of Blessed Junipero Sera during Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, D.C. “No video or photo could capture the spirit and awesomeness of this experience- it is something I’ll remember forever.”

In addition to serving the community at St. Anthony’s, Leanna is an Elementary General Music Teacher for the Bridgeport Public Schools where she teaches grades 2-6 and directs the 5th and 6th Grade School Chorus. She also teaches private voice lessons.

In her free time, Leanna enjoys spending time with her family and friends in Brookfield, Connecticut. She has two cats, Darla and Columbus who think they are dogs. She also enjoys playing the piano and composing music.
